Merkaz Noam is our flagship leadership training course that runs over two years for those wanting to be madrichim on camp.
Noam has been running this programme for over 15 years, creating young, capable, inspiring leaders for generations in our community. Each year, we listen to feedback and continue to build our amazing programme to make it even more enriching.
Merkaz Noam is comprised of two parts: Meltam (Year 11) and Masa (Year 12). The course will not only prepare you for your future in Noam but will give you skills for life.
Join us at New North London Synagogue on Sunday afternoons during term time for safe, informative, and fun sessions to start your leadership journey – see times below for different programmes.
Meltam focuses on understanding Noam’s ideology and working together to take action and run projects around it. Through this process you will learn invaluable leadership and teamwork skills and a deeper understanding of what it means to be a part of Noam. Meltam occurs weekly.
Masa is the second year of our leadership programme. In preparation for leading Camp in the summer of 2021, this course focuses on the practical leadership skills needed, such as how to educate young people, how to deal with challenging behaviour and how to care for young people. This is complimented by the 10 hours of volunteering each participant will do throughout the year at different Noam events (Winter Camp, Club, Kaytana) where they can put all they’ve learnt into practice. Please note that participants must attend 80% of sessions or arrange catch up sessions in order to lead on summer camp
Beit Midrash is our text study track for those in Year 12. It’s an exciting opportunity to take a more in depth look at Talmud and Jewish learning with Rabbi Roni Tabick. This is the perfect opportunity for both beginners and those with some text study experience to be introduced into what ‘chevruta’ (pair learning) and Jewish study looks like!
We are able to reimburse participants £10 per session they attend for their time. Places are limited so will be assigned on a first come first serve basis
Merkaz Noam runs on Sunday evenings during term time from November 7th to April 10th
As part of the Masa curriculum participants are required to gain practical experience by being Madrich/a/ole on Noam Club. In order to do this they may have to arrive early on a number of occurs throughout the course (on a rotational basis) at 1pm to lead Noam Club.
